After over two decades of dedicated service as a high school equivalency instructor with our Network, Irma Snyder has retired, leaving an incredible legacy of education and empowerment.
Irma’s journey in education began in a one-room schoolhouse, where she attended until grade 9 before graduating from Sheet Harbour High School and studying at Normal College in Truro. While teaching school, Irma pursued her studies part-time at St. Francis Xavier University, earning both a BA in English and a BEd. She spent nearly 40 years teaching high school English before transitioning to teach GED, where she became a cornerstone of our Network.
Over the years, Irma has guided and supported countless students, helping them overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their goals. In 2023, she was honored with the United Way’s “Invisible Champion” award, recognizing her patient, kind, and understanding approach to teaching. Irma created a welcoming environment where every student felt valued, included, and capable of succeeding at their own pace.
While we will deeply miss Irma’s warmth, wisdom, and dedication, we are forever grateful for the countless lives she has touched. Thank you, Irma, for inspiring so many and for your extraordinary contributions to our community. You will always be part of our Network family!
